Volcanic activity
There aren't any active volcanoes in Australia. Volcanoes occur closer to the tectonic plate boundaries. The reason why Australia rarely has any volcanic activity is because there are no plate boundaries. However, this doesn't mean they do not have active volcanoes near them. The Heard and McDonald Islands are volcanoes that are on Australian territories. They are located on the southern ocean. Although they are active and not on the mainland it still causes damage to Southern Australia. This can cause blizzards, strong winds, and temperatures that can be dangerous. Since Australia very rarely has any volcanic activity they work on reducing risk to the community. They help by coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Defence offering to support them during any volcano eruption.

I wanted to check into Australia and volcanoes because one day I would like to visit Australia. I was thinking that they probably did not have volcanoes, but now I know for sure. Thank you for posting this about Australia!
ReplyDeleteHi Adrian ,
ReplyDeleteGreat job explaining why Australia doesn’t have much volcanic activity! You clearly pointed out that it’s because there are no plate boundaries, but nearby volcanoes like those on Heard and McDonald Islands can still have an impact. It might help to explain a bit more about how these eruptions cause extreme weather. Also, it’s cool that Australia works on reducing risks—maybe add a little more about how they help. Overall, great work!
Hey Adrian, I didn’t know Australia has volcanoes around, I thought Australia was mainly flat. I don’t know much about the place so naturally I didn’t know that there were volcanoes near the place. I find it interesting that the volcanoes can cause such a huge impact on the weather like the blizzards, strong winds, and changes in temperature. Thankyou for sharing.
