Final Hazards Report

In my opinion, the main hazards in Australia are the earthquakes and mass wasting hazards. Earthquakes, I say, are the main cause of many things. Australia is positioned in the center of the Indo-Australian tectonic plate, and they are less likely to undergo earthquakes. They are away from tectonic plate borders and other areas where large, more frequent earthquakes take place. A couple of these have occurred regularly in 2021. In the same year, there were 5.8 and 4.3 earthquakes in Victoria and a 5.3 in Western Australia. Another one with a magnitude of 4.8 struck Western Australia the following year, and one in the south of the country occurred in March. Adam Pascale is the chief scientist at the Seismology Research Center, even though they don't get many earthquakes. "Earthquakes are occurring in normal return time, so it's okay even though there have been more than usual,".

You may wonder why I also picked mass wasting well because, like I mentioned, earthquakes are the cause of many things in the mass wasting hazard, including landslides. Several things can be affected by landslides. In addition to causing little to significant injuries and even death, they can cause damage to houses, buildings, highways, railroads, pipelines, agricultural land, and crops. In Australia, landslides are a common occurrence. The Queensland government claims that they are aware of the need to take action to understand the consequences and hazards.

You can't stop an earthquake however, you can be prepared for it since they are unpredictable. Things I would do to ensure everyone is aware of the effects of an earthquake would be to provide informative classes for the community. Earthquakes can cause power outages, so it’s always good to have a portable charger or a generator, if possible, to run the refrigerator or have light. Another thing I would make sure everyone knows is that it to prepared canned food that doesn't to cooked or need to be refrigerated. After an earthquake, it is advised to take cover because there can still be aftershocks.

To prepare for landslides, I recommend having a plan, packing supplies, ensuring you're covered, and contacting your local council to find out if there have been any landslides in your neighborhood. It is very similar procedure to the earthquake one.

Australia is very big and beautiful, and many places that would be awesome to build a house in. It would be very tricky to pinpoint a location where they don't get any hazardous activities. I would stay away from coastlines, as if there's an earthquake, it can cause a tsunami, but in an open area where there are not many trees or buildings that can collapse onto my home. However, landslides are a thing, so I would conduct research of the area to ensure there hasnt been any landslides there. I would build it in the northern territory of Australia, as they have not experienced any earthquakes in the last 356 days however they are subject to flooding and landslides which It would be hard to find the perfect location however the northern in my opinion would be best as earthquakes not being frequent doesnt mean landslides and floods wont happen but wont occur as often.
